OPT Information Sessions

  • When: Wednesdays, 2-3:30pm AND Thursdays, 8-9:30am.
  • Where: Student Center B, Large Conference Room (please enter from outside door at the top of stairs facing Gilman Drive)
  • What: The “OPT Information Session” is a presentation of the Application Guide (found in Step 3) and an opportunity for Q&A. You can attend this session to get basic information about the OPT application process, to participate in a “self-check” of your documents, and to have any last questions answered before mailing your complete application to USCIS.


J-1 Employment Workshops

Are you a J-1 international student who wants to work in the U.S.?  These sessions will focus on the types of employment J-1 students can do while a student and after graduating.

International Weekly Webinar Series

The iStudents Weekly Webinars is a series of webinars to update and inform F-1 and J-1 students on topics that may impact their visa status while they are in the US. Each week during the academic year, ISPO advisors will be available online to present on the topics below. Students will have the opportunity to submit general questions through the webinar platform for response from the advisor. This is not meant to replace walk-in or appointment advising for complex issues.

Webinars will start promptly at the times indicated.

Travel and Re-Entry

Leave of Absences from the USA

Date: Tuesday, April 4

If you are planning on taking one or more quarters off from UCSD, you may need to take a leave of absence from the U.S.  This webinar will go over the process of both requesting the leave of absence, and returning to the U.S.

Reduced Course Load

F-1 and J-1 students are required to maintain full-time enrollment (12 units) each academic term however there are a few exceptions to this rule. Learn about eligibility to enroll in less than 12 units for specific academic or medical reasons and learn about the steps you will need to take to receive reduced course load authorization from your college (undergrads) or department (graduates) and ISPO.
