Fall 2017 New International Student Orientation

The UC San Diego International Students & Programs Office (ISPO) is excited to meet you in person!  The International Student Orientation program is your first chance to experience all that UC San Diego has to offer you. Orientation provides valuable information to ease your transition to campus and life in the USA.

Specific details regarding Fall 2017 orientation (time, schedule) will be posted soon.

iTriton Online Training:

All new international students in F-1/J-1 status (including transfer students from other U.S. schools) are required to complete the mandatory iTriton Online Training course before arriving in the USA.

International Student Document Check:

After arrival into the USA, complete the International Student Document Check within 15 days of your program start date at UC San Diego. You are strongly encouraged to attend the International Student Orientation where we will review the immigration documents together or you can bring your documents to the International Students & Programs Office where a staff person will check your documents.

J-1 Exchange Visitor Information

In addition to the information provided to all students in F-1 and J-1 status during orientation, J-1 students and any J-2 dependents should keep themselves informed about The Exchange Visitor Program, as well as their J-1 rights and resources, by reading copies of the Welcome to the Exchange Visitor Program brochure from the Department of State, and the Wilberforce Pamphlet on the Rights and Protections of Temporary Workers.

New International Student Orientation:

We strongly encourage you to attend the International Student Orientation.  At the orientation, you will meet other international students and the ISPO staff, review important information on how to maintain your F-1 or J-1 visa status, check your immigration documents to make sure they were processed correctly at the port of entry, and attend useful information sessions that were created specifically for international students like you.

Specific details regarding Fall 2017 orientation (time, schedule) will be posted soon.

Remember to bring the following documents to the International Student Orientation for the document check:

  • Original Form I-20 (F-1 Students) or DS-2019 (J-1 Exchange Visitors)
  • Copy of electronic I-94 arrival / departure card (accessible at www.cbp.gov/i94 only after arrival to the U.S.)
  • Original passport

The International Student Orientation is separate from undergraduate college orientations, the Graduate Division New Graduate Student Orientation and department orientations.
