Important Notes for SEVIS Transfers

  • Your I-20 or DS-2019 will be issued after you have submitted ALL of the required forms and documentation through the iPortal and AFTER your SEVIS record has been transferred from your current institution to UC San Diego.
  • ISPO needs to receive the SEVIS transfer from your current institution before we can issue you a new I-20 or DS-2019, as only one institution can have access to your SEVIS record at a time.
  • You may stay in the U.S. in between programs/F-1/J-1 activities if the SEVIS record transfer procedures are correctly followed. This includes studying during Summer Session. You will NOT require an early start date on your I-20/DS-2019 for Summer Session study if you follow all transfer procedures correctly (see “Eligibility” above).
  • If you plan on traveling between your last program and your program at UC San Diego, you must enter the U.S. on your UCSD I-20/DS-2019.
