Change of Major

If you are an international student, you must report any changes of major to the International Students & Programs Office (ISPO) within 10 buisness days so that the change is accurately reflected in your SEVIS record.

How do I change my major?

If you are an undergraduate student and would like to declare or change your major, follow the steps here.

If you are a graduate student and would like to transfer to another department or major, follow the steps here.

How do I report my change of major?

If you update your record through TritonLink, ISPO will automatically receive notification of your change in major and update your SEVIS record.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have changed your major, and are planning to travel internationally, you should request an updated Form I-20/DS-2019 before you leave the United States, so that your paper document matches your electronic record.

To request an updated document, please complete the I-20 Request Form (F-1 students) or a DS-2019 Request Form (J-1 students) and submit it to ISPO by email to istudents@ucsd.edu or in person at our front desk. It generally takes 5 business days to issue an updated I-20/DS-2019.
