ORIENTATION ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Volunteer Orientation Assistants (OAs), play an integral role during the New International Student Orientation held every September to welcome over 3,000 international students to UC San Diego.

Requirements

  • Mandatory 2 hour OA Training
  • Sign up for a half day or the full day. A separate email will be sent out to sign up for times after you submit application below.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Welcoming new international students
  • Meeting with students to determine their immediate needs
  • Checking students' immigration documents during Document Check Sessions
  • Providing information and materials on living in San Diego, such as bank accounts and drivers licenses
  • Assisting in locating short-term and long-term housing referrals in the area
  • Making campus and community office referrals as needed
  • Assisting with the Welcome Events, including International Student Welcome Reception

Skills/Qualifications

  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, patience, and empathy
  • Ability to serve as role model and mentor

  • Complete the OA Application (Open NOW) 
    • Note: Students beginning their studies at UC San Diego in Fall 2023 are not eligible to apply.
  • A mandatory waiver form is required for all applicants.
