ORIENTATION ASSISTANT PROGRAM
Volunteer Orientation Assistants (OAs), play an integral role during the New International Student Orientation held every September to welcome over 3,000 international students to UC San Diego.
- Mandatory 2 hour OA Training
- Sign up for a half day or the full day. A separate email will be sent out to sign up for times after you submit application below.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Welcoming new international students
- Meeting with students to determine their immediate needs
- Checking students' immigration documents during Document Check Sessions
- Providing information and materials on living in San Diego, such as bank accounts and drivers licenses
- Assisting in locating short-term and long-term housing referrals in the area
- Making campus and community office referrals as needed
- Assisting with the Welcome Events, including International Student Welcome Reception
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Cross-cultural sensitivity, patience, and empathy
- Ability to serve as role model and mentor
