SEVP/DOS Guidance for the 2023-2024 Academic Year and UC San Diego Operational Plans
(Updated August 2023)
In late spring of 2023, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and the Department of State (DoS) ended its Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) guidance, consistent with the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, following the end of the COVID-19 National Emergency on April 10, 2023. This guidance had allowed for certain flexibilities for students in F-1 status as it pertained to employment, enrollment, and travel. While this COVID-19 guidance has ended, Active F-1 and J-1 students will be able to complete the 2022-23 academic year under the COVID-19 flexibilities through the end of Summer 2023 term, which for UC San Diego ends on September 24th, 2023.
As of Fall 2023 term, starting on September 25, 2023, Active F-1 and J-1 students will need to adhere to F-1 and J-1 regulations that were in place prior to March 2020.
